In Anticipation of Advent: The Choral Countdown to Christmas

As the golden leaves of November pave the way for the festive chill, our hearts and voices turn towards the season of Advent — a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity. Here at the Cleveland County Choral Society, we're embracing the rich history and vibrant tapestry of choral music that heralds this joyous time of year.

November 11th may seem like any other day in the descent towards winter, but for us, it marks the countdown to a season steeped in musical tradition. It's a day to reflect on the great choral works that have been the backbone of Advent and Christmas services for centuries. From the ancient Gregorian chants to the magnificent polyphony of the Renaissance, choral music has always been at the heart of Christmas worship and celebration.

As we look ahead, our repertoire this year includes a blend of the sacred and the celebratory. We delve into the serene yet powerful strains of "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," a hymn that dates back to the 12th century. We'll explore the Baroque splendor of Bach's "Christmas Oratorio" and the timeless beauty of Handel's "Messiah," which continue to resonate deeply with audiences around the world.

Our preparations are in full swing, with every voice in our choir contributing to a tapestry of sound that we can't wait to share with you. As we polish the harmonies of "Ave Maria" and the jubilant melodies of "Joy to the World," we're reminded of the uniting power of music and the shared anticipation of the light that Christmas brings.

In this season of preparation, we invite you to join us in a reflective journey through song. Let the music of past and present fill your homes and hearts as we count down to a Christmas that promises to be as enriching as it is joyous.

We encourage you to follow along on our vlog as we share behind-the-scenes glimpses of our rehearsals, the history behind the music we perform, and the personal reflections of our choristers during this Advent season.
